After a brief break, actor Jiiva has resumed work and signed on for a new film with director Ra Venkat, best known for the critically acclaimed Kida (2023).

The upcoming film, whose details are yet to be revealed, will be backed by Lark Studios, who recently saw success with the releases of Soori's Garudan (2024) and Maaman (2025).

The untitled project will have cinematography by noted DOP M Sukumar, known for cranking the camera for many Tamil and Telugu films. His recent works include Thalaivan Thalaivii and Kumki 2. Interestingly, he is also cranking the camera for Jiiva's another upcoming film Jolliya Iruntha Oruthan which marks a reunion with his Siva Manasula Sakthi (2009) filmmaker M Rajesh.

Other details including plot and additional cast members for Ra Venkat's film have been kept under wraps. According to the makers, the film is set to commence shooting next month in and around Madurai.

Ra Venkat's Kida featured Kaali Venkat and the late Poo Ramu in leading roles. The actor played a doting grandfather who wants to gift his grandson new clothes for Diwali. Despite challenges, he decides that he has to fulfil his grandson's wishes, even if it can only be done by selling his goat which was kept as an offering for God. The film was met with positive reviews.

Jiiva was last seen in Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil which was released earlier this year during the Pongal festival. Directed by Nithish Sahadev of Falimy-fame, the film was commercially well received. His upcoming film Jolliya Iruntha Oruthan had wrapped production in March and is currently in the post production stages. At this juncture, the actor faced a personal tragedy as his father and noted producer RB Choudhary passed away in an accident. After a brief period of mourning, the director has resumed his professional commitments.
