Following the announcement of Manjanathi, Mari Selvaraj's sixth directorial and first collaboration with Ilaiyaraaja, actors Kayadu Lohar and Priyanka Mohan have confirmed their casting in the film. The film's announcement was made on Sunday at Ilaiyaraaja's "50 Years Live Concert".
Sharing the poster, Kayadu wrote on Instagram, "A dream project looks a lot like this. Yes, it’s happening! Finally. A combination that soars through every high note!!" On the other hand, Priyanka Mohan wrote, "Something I’ve been waiting to announce. Truly honoured to collaborate on this, excited for the new beginning."
The casting of Kayadu and Priyanka has been speculated for a while now on social media. Many also reported that the film is a sequel to Vaazhai and will revolve around Sivanainthan's teens and youth. Manjanathi is backed by Navvi Studios and Fortune Entertainment.
The makers are yet to announce more details about the film's extended cast, crew, plot, genre, and release date. This is the first collaboration for both Kayadu Lohar and Priyanka Mohan with Mari Selvaraj.
Mari, who made his debut with Pariyerum Perumal, last helmed Bison Kaalamaadan. His other works include Karnan, Maamannan and Vaazhai. He was also set to collaborate with Dhanush on what was previously titled D56. The film was set to be backed by Vels Film International, with music by AR Rahman. However, as updates about the film are scanty, reports suggest that Mari will complete Manjanathi before he begins the film.
Kayadu Lohar was recently seen in Sai Abhyankkar's independent single, 'Pavazha Malli'. On the film front, her last outing was Pallichattambi in Malayalam. In the pipeline, she has I'm Game, Khalifa: The Intro, The Paradise, Idhayam Murali, Immortal and Thaaram, among others, in various stages of production.
Priyanka, on the other hand, was last seen in Made in Korea. She is working on Kavin 09 in Tamil and 666 Operation Dream Theater in Kannada.
