Ever since his directorial debut in 2019 with Comali, Pradeep Ranganathan has quickly climbed the success ladder within seven years, becoming one of the most bankable stars in the Tamil film industry. He had three back-to-back commercial hits with Love Today, Dude and Dragon, which minted over Rs 100 crore at the box office.

Heaping praise on his choice of films, Anurag Kashyap appreciated his career graph and expressed hope for the future of South Indian cinema industry, especially Tamil movies. Speaking at the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards ceremony, Anurag compared Pradeep's movies to the latest global hit Obsession which made a major indelible footprint at the worldwide box office by earning over $370 million.

"Everyone is talking about Hollywood's Obsession. But all three films starring Pradeep are of a similar obsession-driven nature," he remarked.

The filmmaker's comments have sparked interest among cinema enthusiasts as Anurag is known for championing experimental filmmaking. By comparing Pradeep's films to Obsession, Anurag highlighted the recurring theme of intense, obsessive characters and emotionally driven narratives that have become a defining aspect of the actor's recent performances.

Anurag concluded by saying that watching South Indian cinema gives him confidence that "anything is possible," underlining his belief in the industry's willingness to take risks and tell unique stories.

Last seen in Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), Pradeep will be producing a woman-centric film starring Mamitha Baiju and Ashwath Marimuthu in key roles for his next. Recently, Swasika confirmed the news in an interview, revealing that she too has joined the team in a key role. A director for the project has not been confirmed yet.

Anurag meanwhile was last seen in Adivi Sesh's Dacoit: A Love Story. He recently directed the crime thriller film Bandar starring Bobby Deol in the title role, alongside Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Indrajith Sukumuran, Raj B Shetty and Jitendra Joshi.
