The debate around the lack of censorship clearance for Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, is becoming more intense, with the leak of a letter from a Censor Board representative to the film's producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions. According to the letter, dated December 22, 2025, the board initially decided to grant a U/A 16+ certificate for Jana Nayagan, calling it "suitable for Unrestricted Public Exhibition", after its examining committee has viewed the film. The letter further states that audiences should decide whether or not to take those aged below 16 years to the theatres for a screening of the film, and that the makers should apply the cuts that the board suggested to it. "You are accordingly requested to carry out the given excisions / modifications, so that the film may be sanctioned for unrestricted public exhibition, after verification that the excisions are in order," the letter added.

Eventually, the makers agreed to and implemented the cuts suggested by the Censor Board. However, a member of the board objected to its decision to grant the aforesaid certificate, causing further delays in the film's censorship clearance. According to the board, the film has certain scenes that are likely to trigger religious unrest in India. The board decision is why KVN Productions' Venkat K Narayana and his legal team have approached the High Court, filing a case against it and seeking a resolution in the issue.

The latest speculation about the issue is that the film's producer has decided to take back the case filed against the board and approach the Revising Committee, just like the board originally suggested. Meanwhile, following the leak of the letter, netizens have once again been expressing their frustration at the board's stance against Vijay's final film before his retirement for a full-time career in politics.
