After a long wait, the makers of Ravi Mohan's Karathey Babu have shared an update regarding the film. Helmed by Ganesh K Babu of Dada fame, the upcoming movie will have a teaser unveiled on Saturday, January 24. Sharing the announcement, the makers wrote, "Be cautious that all the characters used in the film are fictional," hinting that the film may feature scenes and dialogues with a satirical take on the current political scenario.
The film went on floors in December 2024 and a title teaser was revealed in January 2025. In the Tamil Nadu assembly, director and actor KS Ravikumar was seen asking the Chief Minister and his party why they're keen on knowing the old name of a minister from his party, to which Nasser's character replies that a name can mean a lot and that it is entirely essential to know the same. Ravi Mohan, the MLA of RK Nagar, then gets up from his seat, clarifying that while he is currently known as Shanmugha Babu, he was known as Karathey Babu in the past. Plot details are still under wraps, but Karathey Babu looks to be a political film, a first for Ravi Mohan. It is expected to centre on his political journey, exploring controversies and his past nickname.
Actor Daudee Jiwal, the daughter of Tamil Nadu Police's former Director General of Police (DGP), Shankar Jiwal, will be playing the female lead in Karathey Babu. Shakthi Vasudevan of Ninaithale Inikkum fame will play a character named Boxer Selavaraj. The extended supporting cast of the film includes KS Ravikumar, Nasser, Shakthi Vasudevan, VTV Ganesh, Subramaniam Siva, Kavithalayaa Krishnan, Pradeep Antony, Raja Rani Pandian, Sandeep Raj, Knife Naren, Sindhupriya, Ajith Gosh, Aravindh, Kalki Raja, Sri Dhanya, Anandhi, Ilan, Sam Anderson, Vetrivel, and Nandhini Senthamizh.
As the producers of Karathey Babu, Screen Scene Media Entertainment is collaborating with Ravi Mohan for the third time after bankrolling Agilan (2023) and Brother (2024). The technical crew of Karathey Babu comprises composer Sam CS, cinematographer Ezhil Arasu K, and editor Kathiresh Alagesan. Rathna Kumar and Bakkiyam Sankar have written the film along with Ganesh K Babu.
Ravi Mohan was last seen in an antagonist role in Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Sivakarthikeyan, Sreeleela and Atharvaa in the lead. The film was released on January 10, ahead of the Pongal festival.
