On Wednesday, the makers of Ravi Mohan's RM 34 announced the film's title along with a title reveal teaser. Helmed by Dada fame Ganesh K Babu, the film has now been titled Karathey Babu.
The teaser features a setup resembling the Tamil Nadu assembly. Director and actor KS Ravikumar is seen asking the Chief Minister and his party why they're keen on knowing the old name of a minister from his party, to which Nasser replies that a name can mean a lot and that it is entirely essential to know the same. We then see Ravi Mohan, the MLA of RK Nagar, clarifying that while he is currently known as Shanmugha Babu, he was known as Karathey Babu in the past. The sequence mimics Ravi Mohan's name change from his well-known moniker, Jayam Ravi.
Actor Daudee Jiwal, the daughter of Tamil Nadu Police's current Director General of Police (DGP), Shankar Jiwal, will be playing the female lead in Karathey Babu. The extended supporting cast of the film includes KS Ravikumar, Nasser Shakthi Vasudevan, Vtv Ganesh, Subramaniam Siva, Kavithalayaa Krishnan, Pradeep Antony, Raja Rani Pandian, Sandeep Raj, Knife Naren, Sindhupriya, Ajith Gosh, Aravindh, Kalki Raja, Sri Dhanya, Anandhi, Ilan, Sam Anderson, Vetrivel, and Nandhini Senthamizh.
As the producers of Karathey Babu, Screen Scene Studios is collaborating with Ravi Mohan for the third time after bankrolling Agilan (2023) and his latest film, Brother.
The technical crew of Karathey Babu comprises composer Sam CS, cinematographer Ezhil Arasu K, and editor Kathiresh Alagesan. Rathna Kumar and Bakkiyam Sankar have written the film along with Ganesh K Babu.
While the plot details are still under wraps, it is clear from the title teaser that Karathey Babu is a political film, a first for Ravi Mohan. With production underway, a release date for the film is yet to be announced.
