Renowned music composer Ghibran has described Draupathi 2 as one of the most creatively demanding projects of his career, saying the historical drama allowed him to venture into musical spaces he had not explored before.

Speaking to the media, Ghibran acknowledged that working on director Mohan G Kshatriyan’s period film came with its own set of challenges. Recreating music rooted in a different century, he said, required him to move far beyond contemporary soundscapes. “Travelling back in time to create music beyond our era proved profoundly challenging,” Ghibran noted, adding that the film was far more layered than a conventional war narrative.

According to the composer, Draupathi 2 weaves together themes of emotion, cultural identity, pain, poetry, romance, vengeance, and patriotism. “This project let me explore unique musical domains,” he said, drawing a parallel to his work on Uthama Villain with Kamal Haasan. He also pointed out the weight of responsibility he felt while composing the background score, particularly given the film’s striking visuals captured by cinematographer Philip R Sundar.

Produced by Sola Shakkaravarthi under the Netaji Productions banner in collaboration with GM Film Corporation, Draupathi 2 has been generating considerable buzz among audiences. Set largely in the 14th century, the film unfolds during the reign of Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III and focuses on the resistance of the Kadavarayas of Sendhamangalam against the backdrop of upheavals triggered by Mughal incursions into Tamil Nadu.

Draupathi 2 stars Richard Rishi, Rakshana Induchoodan, Natty Nataraj and Chirag Jani in lead roles. The ensemble cast also includes Vela Ramamoorthy, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gourang, Y Gee Mahendran, Barani, Deviyani Sharma, Divi, Saravanan Subbiah and Jayavel, among others.

On the technical front, Draupathi 2 has music composed by Ghibran, cinematography by Philip R Sundar, editing by Devaraj, action choreography by Action Santosh, and art direction by Kamalnathan.
