Richard Rishi plays army general Veerasimha Kadavarayan, who is under the command of his king, played by Natty, in the trailer of Draupathi 2. Helmed by Mohan G, the film is all set to open in theatres on January 15.
Mohammed Bin Tughlaq (Chirag Jani) takes over a Tamil land ruled by Natty Nataraj's emperor character. As they're shown to inflict injustice on the people, trying to make them convert to their religion, the army general of the kingdom, Veerasimha Kadavarayan, along with his wife Draupathi (Rakshana Induchoodan), fights to defeat them.
Backed by Sola Shakkaravarthi under the Netaji Productions banner along with GM Film Corporation, Draupathi 2 also stars Vela Ramamoorthy, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gourang, Y Gee Mahendran, Barani, Deviyani Sharma, Divi, Saravanan Subbiah, and Jayavel, among others.
The film, a spiritual sequel to Draupathi (2020), is set against the Hoysala Kingdom, ruled by Veera Vallalar III. It explores the great courage and resistance shown by the Kadavarayas against the Hoysala dynasty and the turbulence stemming from the Mughals' invasion of the state. Announcing the release date, Mohan G called it a story that explores "the history of our land" and said that it explores "what has been recorded in history for this generation". The filmmaker also asked the audience to support his film, as it is set to have its festival release.
On the technical front, Draupathi 2 has music by Ghibran, cinematography by Philip R Sundar, editing by Devaraj, stunts by Action Santosh, and art direction by Kamalnathan. The film, which was initially slated for release in late January, took over the Pongal release window after the postponement of Vijay's swansong, Jana Nayagan.
