The makers of Vijay's Jana Nayagan have reportedly moved the Supreme Court, challenging the Madras High Court's interim stay imposed on the certification of the film. As per a report on Nakkheeran, KVN Productions, the banner behind the film, has requested an urgent hearing of the appeal, for as early as January 12.

The appeal has been made after the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court stayed the order passed by Justice PT Asha directing the Central Board of Film Certification to grant the U/A 16+ certificate to the film. The next hearing for the writ appeal, filed by the CBFC, is scheduled for January 20.

At the hearing on Friday, the representatives of the CBFC argued that after the judgement of Justice PT Asha, they were not given time to file a counter affidavit. They also argued that Justice PT Asha had quashed the order of the Chairman of the CBFC, even though the appeal wasn't filed for that reason.

The Chief Justice also questioned the move of the producer to create a false sense of urgency by announcing a release date before the issuance of certification.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars an ensemble cast which includes Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, Narain and others. While there is a long-standing speculation that Jana Nayagan is the remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), and the trailer also seems to suggest the same, the makers are yet to confirm any details about it.

Jana Nayagan has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, camera work by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav. It is co-produced by by Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK.
