As we earlier reported, Chinmayi received a lot of flak for collaborating with Mohan G for the 'Emkoney' song from Draupathi 2, as their political ideologies don't align. Following the backlash, Chinmayi issues a statement saying she didn't know which film she sang the song for and that she only did it for composer Ghibran. After her statement, director Mohan G asked netizens to refrain from attacking the technicians of his film.
Now, the makers of Draupathi 2 have announced that an alternative singer will render the 'Emkoney' song and that Chinmayi's version will not feature on the big screens in the film. The film's producer, Chola Shakkaravarthi, and director, Mohan G, told the press that they have identified another person to sing the track.
Director Mohan G Kshatriyan said, "I had given time until last week in the hope that she would react. I have lodged a complaint with the director's union, and the producer has lodged a complaint with the producers' council. We have complained that without any cause, she has defamed our film in public. We have both lodged complaints. The complaints have gone to FEFSI. The process takes time. We have chosen an alternate voice for her."
Draupathi 2 will once again star Draupathi headliner Richard Rishi in the lead role. Rakshana Induchoodan plays the female lead in the sequel. While the former will portray Veera Simha Kadavarayan, the latter will be seen as Draupathi Devi. Chirag Jani, known for his roles in Kaappaan, Thunivu and Agilan, is set to play Mohammad Bin Tughlaq.
Natty, YG Mahendran, Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan also play key roles in the film. Sources close to the film said that the film will have two more powerful villains besides Chirag Jani. An announcement on the same is awaited.
Mohan G recently revealed that he took inspiration from a small book called Moondram Vallalla Maharaja by the historian Annal Kandar for the film. Draupathi 2 marks the third collaboration between Richard Rishi and Mohan G, after Draupathi and Rudra Thandavam (2023). Mounted as a grand multilingual period film, it has been written by Mohan G and Padma Chandrasekhar. The film’s technical crew includes music composer Ghibran Vaibodha, cinematographer Philip R Sundar, editor Devaraj, art director Kamalnathan, choreographer Thanika Tony, and stunt coordinator Action Santosh.
The film has cleared censorship formalities with a U/A certificate. While the filmmaker had recently reposted an X post claiming that the film will hit theatres on January 23, Mohan G and the film's makers are yet to officially announce the release date.
