As uncertainty looms around the clearance of censor certificate for Vijay's much-anticipated Jana Nayagan, the Madras High Court has adjourned the case pertaining to it for Wednesday. The action thriller, directed by H Vinoth is slated for release in theatres worldwide on January 9.

When an urgent petition was filed at the High Court by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions for clearing censor-related issues, the case's hearing was adjourned for Wednesday. The court also directed that a complaint alleging that certain scenes in the film that hurt religious sentiments be formally filed. It is to be noted that despite completion of review, CBFC has not issued Jana Nayagan a censor certificate.

The production company also informed the court that while the film was recommended for a U/A certificate, the final decision on granting the censor certificate has been referred to a Revising Committee for reconsideration.

The court further directed that after the censor process is completed, details of the person who lodged the complaint must be disclosed and the complaint should be filed before the court on Wednesday.

Questioning the urgency, the judge remarked, "Why can’t the film’s release be postponed to the 10th? As the Tamil saying goes, Thai pirandhaal vazhi pirakkum (with the advent of Thai, a way will emerge)."

The developments surrounding the Vijay-starrer come even as many theatres in Kerala, Karnataka, and in Tamil Nadu have opened reservations for the film. According to sources close to the development, who spoke to CE, theatre owners are hesitant about opening reservations owing to censorship hassles. The excitement around the film continues to remain sky-high even in major North Indian markets like Mumbai. Tickets have already been sold out in many theatres in the state.

Reportedly, even Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi is yet to get a censor certificate, and that film's producer, Dawn Pictures' Aakash Baskaran, too, is moving the court for its intervention.
