There is growing uncertainty over the timely release of the Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, as the Censor Board is yet to give a clearance certificate for the film. The latest buzz online is that producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions has moved Madras High Court, seeking the court's intervention in the censorship issue and thus get a clearance from it for the film's release. The developments surrounding the Vijay starrer come even as many theatres in Kerala, Karnataka, and in Tamil Nadu have opened reservations for the film. According to sources close to the development, who spoke to CE, theatre owners are hesitant about opening reservations because there is growing uncertainty regarding whether or not the film would release on January 09 because of the censorship hassles.

According to Lesley, manager at Vanitha Theatre in Edappally, Kochi, most single-screens in Kerala are yet to open bookings for Jana Nayagan. "Many of them have paid the money to distributors but are waiting for the film's censorship clearance to open the reservations," Lesley told CE.

It is not uncommon for the censorship process to take its time and for the clearance certificate to come just days before a big film's release. However, Lesley said that such a situation is unprecedented for a Vijay film. "Even we at Vanitha Theatre have also paid the distributor. However, what if the release date gets changed? This is why most theatres are yet to open reservations for the film. Something like this has never happedn for a Vijay film in my lifetime," Lesley added.

Reportedly, even Parasakthi is yet to get a censor certificate, and that film's producer, Dawn Pictures' Aakash Baskaran, too, is moving the court for its intervention.
