Preethi Asrani, who plays the female lead in Rathna Kumar's upcoming film 29, has now disclosed her character's name in the film. Taking to her Instagram page, the actor, who shared stills of herself from the film, wrote, "Meet your VIJI."
The title teaser of the film, which was released in December teased an interesting concept where men, who were 29 years old, were asked who they were. While many reply with their name and profession, Vidhu's character Sathya replies, "I don't know" and struggles to piece his identity amid some internal crisis. He then meets Preethi Asrani's character and the two look deeply into each others' eyes, hinting the start of their romantic journey. The film is billed as a romantic film which is set in a period where popular dating apps like Tinder and Bumble weren't present.
Previously, Preethi noted that acting in the film felt like a "dream-come-true" for her. "When I first acted in Tamil cinema, I had already heard about Stone Bench Films. People would say that working with them feels like being part of a family. I always wished to act in their production someday. Today, that wish has come true; I’m now part of their family."
Preethi then said that she hopes that their efforts translate on screen for the audience to experience what they felt while performing the scenes. "The way we felt while performing the scenes on set is what we hope you will feel as viewers. In the promo video, the question ‘Who are you?’ is posed deeply—inviting people to reflect within themselves. I hope audiences relate to it," she shared.
29 marks a comeback to direction for Rathna Kumar after 2022's Gulu Gulu. Meanwhile, he made contributions to the dialogues in films, such as Master and Vikram.
Apart from Vidhu and Preethi Asrani, the film also has Master Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima, and Premkumar, among others.
On the technical team, 29 has music by Sean Roldan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam and editing by RS Sathish Kumar. Besides Tamil, the film is also set to be released in Telugu. The film is being produced by Kaarthikeyan S of Stone Bench banner, created by Karthik Subbaraj, and Lokesh Kanagaraj's G Squad.
A release date for 29 has not been announced yet.
