Director Halitha Shameem took to her official X handle to praise Rathna Kumar's next directorial, 29. The film, launched on Wednesday, stars Vidhu and Preethi Asrani in lead roles. It is backed by Lokesh Kanagaraj's G Squad and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films.
She wrote, "Read the script almost a year back, and it’s still vivid in my memory. For those who refuse to come out of old-school romance and still call Chennai Madras, this movie will be something to hold on to for a very long time. This is a huge slice of life!! The #29 crisis is real, and the kind of magic that unfolds following it is so. I don’t know how you arrived at that ‘aha moment’. My heart skips a beat whenever I think about it. Bring it on, Rathna! #29TheFilm" (sic)
29 marks a comeback to direction for Rathna Kumar after 2022's Gulu Gulu. Meanwhile, he made contributions to the dialogues in films, such as Master and Vikram. Apart from Vidhu and Preethi Asrani, the film also has Master Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima, and Premkumar, among others.
On the technical team, 29 has music by Sean Roldan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam and editing by RS Sathish Kumar. Besides Tamil, the film is also set to be released in Telugu. A release date for 29 has not been announced yet.
Halitha Shameem last helmed Minmini (2024), starring Esther Anil and Gaurav Kaalai C in lead roles. She worked as a screenwriter in JioHotstar's Good Wife, helmed by Revathy and starring Priyamani in the lead.
