Actor-director SJ Suryah opened up about his days as an assistant director and his dreams in the film industry recently at the Touring Talkies Frame and Fame Awards of 2026. The actor received the Best Actor in a Negative Role award for his performance in Veera Dheera Sooran and was presented the award by his mentor, director Vasanth.
When praised for performing his negative roles with utmost perfection, SJ Suryah said, "I just try to do anything with sincerity." Further, he recalled his days as an assistant filmmaker, saying, "Vasanth sir knows how sincere I was as an assistant director. I have even performed as a dog in an instance. We required a dog in Kullu Manali, and we thought quickly, and I wore a coat and pretended to be a dog for a shot."
Further, SJ Suryah added that his dream in the industry goes beyond being a director or a villain. "I have a long way to go as an actor. I am merely on the pathway to the great heights I wish to achieve. I didn't aim at becoming a filmmaker or a villain. My aim is completely different, and that will be achieved soon. I am working on my directorial Killer, and upon its release I hope my way ahead will look a little different," he said.
Meanwhile, SJ Suryah has a number of films in his pipeline. He is set to be seen as the antagonist opposite Pradeep Ranganathan in Love Insurance Kompany, helmed by Vignesh Shivan. He is reportedly a part of Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which is yet to be confirmed by the makers. Apart from Killer, he also has Sardar 2 with Karthi and Bro Code with Ravi Mohan and Arjun Ashokan in the pipeline.
