Kamal Haasan is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time in Indian cinema. Besides his acting prowess, Kamal is also known for his work as a director, screenwriter, and producer. Recently, Radikaa Sarathkumar, his co-star from 1986's Swathi Muthyam, spoke about Kamal as a producer and drew a parallel between him and Sivakarthikeyan.
Speaking to Galatta Plus, Radikaa appreciated the initiative that Sivakarthikeyan took to back a different project such as their upcoming film Thaai Kizhavi. The actor said that Sivakarthikeyan is similar to Kamal in this regard. According to her, this trait is different from those who turn producers to make big investment in certain projects with the sole aim of reaping great rewards. "I have seen Kamal sir doing it, putting everything, heart and soul back into movies, and after that, I am seeing Siva doing it. Good," Radikaa said. Interestingly, Kamal produced the Sivakarthikeyan starrer Amaran.
The Amaran and Parasakthi star is known for backing smaller films that do not feature big stars and/or that tell important stories, such as Vaazhl, Kurangu Pedal, Kottukkaali, and House Mates.
Recently, his sports drama Kanaa won in four categories of the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, including Best Actor (Female) (Special Award) for Aishwarya Rajesh. In her note of gratitude, Aishwarya recognised the role that the actor played as the film's producer.
Coming back to Thaai Kizhavi, the film is produced by Sivakarthikeyan under his namesake banner alongside Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios. The film marks the directorial debut of Sivakumar Murugesan, who has directed it from his own screenplay. Recently, Radikaa Sarathkumar spoke about the help she has received from her director with the prosthetic makeup process. As the title implies, it stars Radikaa as an elderly woman, a transformation that required her to put in four and a half hours every day into the makeup process.
The film also features actors Singam Puli, George Maryan, Bala Saravanan, Arul Doss, Munishkanth, Raichal Rabecca Muthukumar, and Ilavarasu, among others. It is slated for a February 20 release in theatres.
