Earlier, we reported about Radikaa Sarathkumar playing an elderly woman in director Sivakumar Murugesan's film Thaai Kizhavi, which is slated for a February 20 release in theatres. Playing the role required Radikaa to undergo a long transformation process, involving prosthetic makeup. Recently, the actor talked about the process.
Speaking to Galatta Plus, she described the transformation for the character as a 'painful' process. Referring to it, she said, "It is a four and a half hour process, to take it off two and a half hours." Therefore, the actor had to wake up early morning to prepare for the character. What made it more challenging for her is the fact that she had a knee problem and had to do physio before entering the process.
Calling it 'exhausting', Radikaa joked about how heroes would come to the set, perform their portions and go back home and how they get a high remuneration for it. "Give it to me also," the actor quipped.
The actor also said that her Thaai Kizhavi director helped her get into the character. "He kept taking videos of women. I was watching how they walk, they talk," she said, referring to director Sivakumar's collaboration with her while working on the film. She added that she showed a picture of her transformation for the film to veteran director Bharathiraja, who visited her when her mother died. "Bharathiraja sir started crying, seeking my picture, and asked me, 'How are you able to do these (characters)?'. I told him that if not for him, I would not be where I am today."
The actor further stated that Bharathiraja could see his mother in Radikaa Sarathkumar's transformation for the lead role of Thaai Kizhavi. "He adores his mother," the actor signed off.
Recently, Kamal Haasan also expressed his amazement at Radikaa's transformation for the film.
