Dhanush's 54th film, Kara, helmed by Vignesh Raja, has opened in theatres, and audiences have already begun flooding social media with their views of the film. It also stars Mamitha Baiju, Suraj Venjaramoodu, KS Ravikumar, Karunaas, and Sreeja Ravi, among others, in lead roles.
While a lot of netizens have reviewed only the first half, calling the interval block "banger", some others have penned their thoughts after watching the entire film. While reviews are still coming up, many have described the second half as middling when compared to the first half.
Praising Dhanush in his review, a user wrote, "Kara: Dhanush delivers a very natural and realistic performance, no mass, no over-the-top build-up. Such a grounded actor in Kollywood.. His emotional scenes, especially with KS Ravikumar, truly connect and hit hard.."
One user wrote a simple review about the film and the performances of the cast. "Kara: Each and every character arc is superb. Dhanush: tense and guilt-driven performance. KS Ravikumar: an emotionally driven role. Karunaas: natural humour. Mamitha Baiju: less screen presence but impactful. Prithvi: good."
Another user gave a very unfavourable review for the film, criticising the second half. First Half: Mamitha's acting is okayish, and Dhanush plays his usual role from Karnan. The interval is an expected one. Second half: GV's music is the backbone. Easily predictable scenes. Too lengthy and boring. 1 / 5. Kara Review: Completely disaster."
In contrast, another user praised the film, calling it a "masterpiece". "Kara Review - Masterpiece. Dhanush delivers a powerhouse performance in Kara, pure intensity, emotion, and screen command from start to finish. The film grips you with its raw storytelling, striking visuals, and impactful moments that stay long after it ends. A bold, engaging cinematic experience that proves content and performance still rule. Mamitha Baiju's acting is strong and powerful."
A user specifically reviewed the first half, writing, "A powerful first half driven by strong storytelling. Clean setup, emotional depth, and a superb interval. Dhanush delivers a commanding performance, lifting every scene with his intensity."
While these are only initial reviews from netizens, a review of the film from CE's critics and other general audiences is awaited. Kara is backed by Ishari Ganesh under the Vels Film International banner. The film has been written by Vignesh Raja as well as Alfred Prakash. It has Dhanush playing Karasaami, aka Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991, which leads to a fuel crisis in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
