Actor Bharath reprises his role as the titular police officer in Kaalidas 2, a sequel to his 2019 film, directed by Sri Senthil, which hit theatres today. Ahead of the film's release, he reflected on the early days of his acting career, including the learnings he had and the observations he made about the industry.
Speaking to Galatta Plus, Bharath said that he and his contemporaries wanted to be successful heroes such as Vijay and Ajith Kumar early on in their careers, from 2007 to 2010. "Every hero wanted to choose scripts in such a kind that they wanted to do a film like Vijay sir or Ajith sir," the actor said. Then, he spoke about the elements that were prominent in the two superstar's films, such as heroic moments and low-angle, character entry shots, and multiple songs, including a special number featuring actresses.
The actor said that, every other young hero, including him, emulated the two big stars of Tamil cinema back in the day, and while some of them succeeded, others failed in their endeavours and came back with much criticism. "It was a trend," he said.
Bharath's acting credits include mass films such as Pazhani and Thiruthani, both of which are directed by Perarasu, who made his debut with the Vijay starrer Thirupaachi. The actor also spoke about why Perarasu cast him in Pazhani, which marked a different genre for him. Admitting that he asked the filmmaker about it, Bharath said, "He told me that he wanted to prove himself by working with an up and coming hero." The actor added that Perarasu experienced a minor dip in his career after his first few films and wished to prove that he was not in the 'shadow' of any other filmmaker.
