Chennai police were put on alert on Monday evening after anonymous emails claimed that bombs had been planted at the residences of actors Rajinikanth and Dhanush, as well as Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Sevalperunthagai.

The emails were reportedly sent to the official account of the Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police (DGP) and were later forwarded to the Greater Chennai City Police for immediate action.

Following the alert, the Teynampet police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to Rajinikanth’s residence in Poes Garden to conduct a security sweep. The actor’s personal security team, however, assured officials that no suspicious individuals had entered the premises. The inspection confirmed that no explosives were found, and the threat was deemed a hoax. Similar checks were carried out at the homes of Dhanush and K Sevalperunthagai, with the BDDS verifying that both locations were secure.

The incident adds to a troubling pattern of fake bomb threats across Tamil Nadu in recent months. A spate of hoax emails has caused panic in schools, forcing evacuations, and prompted emergency responses at several high-profile sites, including the residences of the Chief Minister, the Opposition leader, and the Governor, as well as key railway stations.

Earlier, actor-turned-politician Vijay was targeted by a similar threat, followed by hoax alerts involving actors Trisha and Nayanthara and, more recently, composer Ilaiyaraaja. Police officials have launched an investigation to trace the source of the latest email and determine whether the incidents are connected to the earlier threats.
