In recent months, Tamil Nadu has been rattled by a series of bomb hoaxes, sparking widespread panic. False alarms have targeted schools, leading to chaotic evacuations of students, while similar threats have been issued against high-profile locations, including the Chief Minister’s residence, the Opposition leader’s house, the Governor’s Mansion, and major railway stations.
Recently, actor-turned-political leader Vijay received a bomb threat, following which similar threats were issued to the houses of Trisha and Nayanthara. The latest victim of this hoax is veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja, whose T Nagar studio was reportedly targeted by a bomb hoax on Tuesday, as per reports.
On Tuesday, an email was reportedly sent to the DGP's office and Ilaiyaraaja, with a threat that an explosive was planted in the premises of his studio. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the spot once alerted and conducted a thorough search.
Just like previous threats, this threat also turned out to be a hoax. On enquiry, it was revealed that the email was sent from a Hotmail address, the same as the ones that were previously sent to other politicians and film celebrities. An investigation has been taken up by the Cyber Crime department and the Chennai City Police.
Previously, on October 2, bomb threat emails were sent to the DGP, targeting VIPs including actors Trisha and SV Shekher. The Bomb Squad (BDDS) investigated but found nothing suspicious. Later, on October 9, police arrested 37-year-old Shabik for making a hoax call about a bomb at actor Vijay's residence.
