A week since the release of Mari Selvaraj's Bison Kaalamaadan, music composer Nivas K Prasanna has been receiving praise equivalent to the film's director and lead actors for his compositions in the film. In a recent interview, the composer has opened up about how the 'Cheenikkallu' song was conceived for the film.
In conversation with Cinema Vikatan, Nivas revealed that Mari Selvaraj initially wanted to place Ilaiyaraaja's 'Malarndhum Malaradha' from Pasamalar for that scene. He further said, "He had cut that scene with the 'Malarndhum Malaradha' song during our re-recording session. He then told me that he intended to buy the rights for the song. I fought with him and said he should not buy the rights and use another composer's song in my film. I then told him that I would compose a piece apt for that portion, and if he was not pleased, he could go ahead and buy the rights. I composed 'Cheenikkallu' with that anger, in exactly 10 minutes."
Bison is based on the life of kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan. The film stars Dhruv Vikram in the main role, alongside Anupama Parameswaran in the female lead. Written by Mari Selvaraj himself, it also features actors Lal, Pasupathy, Rajisha Vijayan, Aruvi Madhan, Azhagam Perumal, Anurag Arora, and Ameer, among others. The film has lyrics by Mari and Arivu. The film's technical team also includes cinematographer Ezhil Arasu, editor Sakthi Thiru, and action choreographer Dhilip Subbarayan.
Bison hit theatres on October 17 alongside Dude and Diesel. It opened to critical acclaim but has only performed averagely at the box office, as Dude ended up overpowering the film commercially during the Deepavali festive season.
