Mari Selvaraj's sports drama Bison Kaalamaadan is continuing to generate interest even in its second week in theatres. The film, which is continuing to drive a steady crowd to theatres, has crossed the Rs 35 crore mark across India. Despite stiff competition from Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude, Bison has sold almost the same amount of tickets over the last few days. Going by this trend, the film is expected to maintain its momentum in theatres throughout this week and the next.
Bison earned Rs 27.25 crore in its first week, but didn't slow down in its second week. It continued to mint consistent revenue, only slightly dipping on isolated days. During its second weekend, the film collected over Rs 7 crore (Friday - Rs 1.75 crore, Saturday - Rs 3 crore and Sunday 3.35 crore).
Word-of-mouth reviews for Mari Selvaraj's fifth directorial has been strong, with several celebrities and audiences pouring in their appreciation for the filmmaker's craft and Dhruv Vikram's performance. Recently, Mari Selvaraj met Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. Sharing photos, the Chief Minister said the film was "Another diamond in Mari Selvaraj's crown!".
Produced by Pa Ranjith and Aditi Anand under Neelam Studios in association with Applause Entertainment, Bison also features Anupama Parameshwaran, Lal, Ameer, Pasupathi, and Rajisha Vijayan. A sports drama, the film is inspired from the life and struggles of Arjuna award-winning Kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan. The film was also recently released in Telugu.
Our CE review of the film read, "Bison is Mari Selvaraj’s most violent to date, and it is beautiful how the gore and bloodshed aren’t at the hands of the protagonist but everywhere around him. It is a terrific exploration of the aftermath of violence and its unsettling consequences in the minds of the young and easily influenced."
The technical crew of the film includes Ezhil Arasu K as the cinematographer, Sakthi Thiru as the editor, Kumar Gangappan as the art director, and Dhilip Subbarayan as the action choreographer.
