Despite mixed reviews from fans and critics, Suriya's latest film Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj has been earning steady revenue at the box office. In the first two days of the film's release, it earned over Rs 46 crore worldwide, announced the makers. Reportedly, the film earned more than 10 crore in advance bookings alone.
Produced by Suriya-Jyotika's 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films, Retro also stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead along with Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Karunakaran, Tamizh, Prem Kumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sandeep Raj, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh, among others.
An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "The director’s adamant fixation on making this film ideologically dense ironically ends up showing us how functionally shallow its surface-level social commentaries are. Perhaps, failing in pursuit of greatness is no failure at all. However, the biggest frustration with Retro remains to be that it fails to recognise and respect its own light before aiming for the sun."
With Santhosh Narayanan as the music composer, the technical crew of the film crew comprises cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, editor Shafique Mohamed, art director Jackson, action choreographer Kecha Khamphakdee, and costume designer Praveen Raja.
