At the audio launch of the Suriya starrer Retro, actor Joju George spoke candidly about his role in the film as well as working with Suriya and director Karthik Subbaraj. Speaking about Retro filmmaker Karthik, with whom he reunites after 2021's Jagame Thandhiram, Joju said that the director, whom he called his 'friend', had more faith in his ability as an actor than he himself had. "Retro has a different universe with characters who are new to me. When it was narrated to me, I wondered how to portray my character in it. I was scared of the character right away," said Joju. The Iratta actor added that he found it intimidating that he was part of the film's climax, but then Karthik gave him the confidence that he could play such a character in this big film.

Joju then spoke about "namma Suriya sir" (our very own Suriya sir). Joju reminisced about a conversation he had with his Retro co-star about longevity in cinema. "I asked him whether I could be in cinema after the success of a film. Suriya sir replied, 'It depends on how you handle success in life.'" Joju then cited Suriya as a prime example of someone who put that mantra into practice.

Joju also thanked his co-star Pooja Hegde, composer Santhosh Narayanan, and his production team.
