At the audio launch of the Suriya-Karthik Subbaraj film Retro, actor Nassar heaped praise on his co-star Suriya. "I have been watching Suriya from his first film. I have seen his real rise from close quarters," said Nassar. The actor underscored Suriya's commitment to craft. "He makes sacrifices to execute his responsibilities to perfection," the veteran actor added. Nassar further stated that he asked Suriya to use a body double for stunt sequences but that the latter denied it. He then highlighted how Suriya came back to shoot despite sustaining a head injury. "Brother, I advise you, we need you forever. So be safe," said Nassar. "You belong to not just your family but to us as well. When you earned a name as a good actor, you became our own Suriya," said Nassar much to the delight of a rapturous audience.

The actor also praised Retro composer Santhosh Narayanan's work. "Santhosh, I always love your music. My children speak so proudly about you," said Nassar before adding that the composer has produced "great music for this film".

Nassar then thanked producer Kaarthekeyen Santhanam for taking risks on the film and giving all the creative freedom to director Karthik to execute his vision. "You helped realise everyone's dream," said Nassar about Kaarthekeyen, who produced the film alongside Suriya and Jyotika.

The actor also reserved special praise for director Karthik Subbaraj. "I knew from before that he had a different thought process," he said about the Jigarthanda director. Speaking about Retro, Nassar stated that the film has a different setting, which made him excited about working on it. The actor concluded his speech by thanking his co-stars.

Also starring Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Sujith Shankar, and Jayaram, among others, Retro is slated for a May 01 release in theatres.
