Ram's Paranthu Po and Sri Ganesh's 3BHK were released this weekend to largely positive reviews and decent initial box-office numbers. On their first two days, both films showed strong momentum, but on Sunday, the third day, they experienced a sharp and unexpected dip in collections.
Paranthu Po, directed by Ram and starring Shiva and Mitul Ryan, opened to modest numbers on Friday with ₹0.42 crore. The film saw an encouraging 121% jump on Saturday, earning ₹0.93 crore, driven largely by positive word-of-mouth and curiosity around a change in Ram’s signature storytelling. However, as per a report on Sacknilk.com, Sunday witnessed a surprising fall, with collections dropping to just ₹0.11 crore, bringing the total weekend collection to ₹1.46 crore.
Despite early momentum, the sharp dip on Day 3 suggests a challenge in sustaining footfalls. With its light-hearted tone and niche narrative, Paranthu Po may now rely heavily on weekday stability and urban multiplex support to gain box office traction.
On the other hand, 3BHK, directed by Sri Ganesh and starring Siddarth, Sarath Kumar, Devayani, and others, started stronger with ₹1 crore on Day 1. It built on that with an impressive ₹1.76 crore on Saturday, taking its two-day total to ₹2.76 crore. However, Sunday also saw a significant slowdown, as the film collected only ₹0.13 crore, pushing its total weekend collection to ₹2.89 crore. Both films had a promising start but have failed to convert their early momentum into a strong Sunday showing, a day usually considered peak for footfalls.
Though the drop is notable, 3BHK still maintains a clear lead over Paranthu Po, although the latter received more overwhelmingly positive reviews and critical acclaim when compared to the former. While the former currently holds the upper hand in terms of box office numbers, the latter may still find its niche audience if the positive reviews translate into sustained interest.
