'EmKoney', the first single from Draupathi 2, features a regal wedding between Veera Simha Kadavarayan (Richard Rishi) and Draupathi Devi (Rakshana Induchoodan). The song, composed by Ghibran, was unveiled on Monday. Chinmayi has crooned the celebratory melody with lyrics by Selvamira. Draupathi 2 is helmed by Mohan G Kshathriyan.
When the song was announced on Sunday, Chinmayi faced backlash for collaborating with Mohan G Kshathriyan due to their varied political ideologies. On Monday, both Chinmayi and Mohan G let out statements regarding the issue. While the former said that she only worked with Ghibran, without knowing what film the song was for, the latter requested the public to refrain from attacking his technicians, who play no part in his ideology.
Although titled after the director's 2020 film Draupathi, the latest feature is a historical drama set in the 14th century and bears no resemblance to the earlier film. Draupathi 2 marks the third collaboration between Richard Rishi and Mohan G, after Draupathi and Rudra Thandavam (2023).
The film’s shoot was wrapped up in September after an extensive production schedule that began in Mumbai and concluded in Ariyallur. Makers are eyeing a December release for the film.
Natty, YG Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan also star in key roles in Draupathi 2.
On the technical front, the film features music composer Ghibran Vaibodha, cinematographer Philip R. Sundar, editor Devaraj, art director Kamalnathan, choreographer Thanika Tony, and stunt coordinator Action Santosh.
