Director Mohan G, who recently announced the sequel to Draupathi, released the first look poster underwater on the occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi.
Revealing the reason behind the move, he said in an interview with IANS, "We wanted to draw the attention of audiences to our film. While thinking about how we could do that, I got this idea. My next film after Draupathi 2 is a film which is to be predominantly shot underwater. In fact, I am working with underwater teams comprising of experts. So, as an experimental idea, we thought why not we try and release the first look poster of this film with that team. We did that and it worked."
However, this historical drama, starring Richard Rishi in the lead as King Veera Simha Kadavarayan, does not have anything to do with water, he confirmed.
Sources from the team have shared that the Draupathi 2 is set in the 14th century, during the period when Mughals first set foot in Tamil Nadu. According to the makers, the film is based on blood-stained history and will look to highlight the valour and sacrifice of the Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III, who ruled South India with Thiruvannamalai as the capital, and the Kadavarayas, who ruled Sendhamangalam.
Apart from Richard Rishi, the film also stars Rakshana Indusudan, Natty Natraj, YG Mahendran, Bharani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, and Dinesh Lamba, among others. This film marks Richard Rishi's third collaboration with Mohan G.
About 75 per cent of the film has been shot in Mumbai, while the remaining portions have been filmed in Senji, Thiruvannamalai, and parts of Kerala, revealed sources.
Draupathi 2, produced by Sola Shakkaravarthi under GM Film Corporation, has Ghibran Vaibodha as the composer. While Philip R Sunder will crank the camera, Devaraj will edit the film.
Released in 2020, Draupathi starred Richard Rishi alongside Sheela Rajkumar in lead roles. The film revolved around Rudra Prabhakaran, who is jailed after being accused of his wife's murder in an alleged honour killing. Subsequently, he descends into a dark path of vengeance after posting bail.
