The first single from Richard Rishi's Draupathi 2, 'EmKoney', is all set to be unveiled on Monday at 5pm. Meanwhile, the makers of the Mohan G directorial announced the news of the first single release on Sunday. In the announcement, Chinmayi's name was mentioned as the singer of the track. Following the announcement, the playback singer and dubbing artist received a lot of flak for collaborating with Mohan G, whose political ideology doesn't align with that of hers.
Clarifying why she collaborated with Mohan G, Chinmayi wrote on Monday, "At the outset, my heartfelt apologies for 'EmKoney'. Ghibran is a composer I have known for 18 years, since my jingle-singing days. When his office called for this song, I just went & sang as I usually do. If I remember right, Ghibran wasn't present during this session – I was given an idea on how to sound tonally for the song; I finished the recording, and I left. It is only now that I have got to learn about the context. If I had known beforehand, I would never have collaborated because the ideologies are in complete contradiction to mine. This is the absolute truth."
Further, taking to X, director Mohan G responded by saying, "Don't target any technicians, actors, actresses or whoever works with me in #Draupathi2." Whatever my movie speaks, it's my own creation and ideology. Your target is me… Don't target those associated directly or indirectly with me and my projects. It's a kind of cowardice."
Although titled after the director's 2020 film, the latest feature is a historical drama set in the 14th century and bears no resemblance to the earlier film. Draupathi 2 marks the third collaboration between Richard Rishi and Mohan G, after Draupathi and Rudra Thandavam (2023).
The film’s shoot was wrapped up in September after an extensive production schedule that began in Mumbai and concluded in Ariyallur. Makers are eyeing a December release.
Draupathi 2 also features Natty, YG Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan in key roles.
On the technical front, the film features music composer Ghibran Vaibodha, cinematographer Philip R. Sundar, editor Devaraj, art director Kamalnathan, choreographer Thanika Tony, and stunt coordinator Action Santosh.
