Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has been busy promoting his upcoming film Coolie with Rajinikanth, revealed the genesis of his LCU film Benz and why he wanted someone else to direct it.
In a recent interview, Lokesh shared, "I wrote Benz five years ago and it never went ahead after that. I thought I could make some other filmmaker direct this film. Sudhan (Sundaram) and Jagadish are my production partners. Incidentally, when I was talking about the film to them. Sudhan sir really liked it and encouraged me to give it to someone else, saying it would work well."
He further added, "When we were discussing the business aspects of it, they suggested to bring it under LCU. We were looking for directors to helm this project when I remembered Bakkiyaraj Kannan's name. I knew him from Sulthan. He visualises songs well - be it Sulthan or Remo. This is the first LCU film which is not directed by me. Hopefully, if everyone gives their best effort and it does well commercially, I can take the decision of giving opportunities to similar directors who can helm other LCU-related stories. It is all a trial-and-error process."
Lokesh also disclosed that he is planning to make a web series on Agent Tina sometime later with another director. "I want to expand the branches of LCU with other directors. All this is based on the success of Benz," he said.
Recently, the makers had announced that the film's first schedule had been wrapped up. Nivin Pauly as Twin Fish Walter plays the antagonist in the film.
The technical crew of the film includes Goutham George as the cinematographer, Philomin Raj as the editor, and Jacki as the art director. Sai Abhyankkar, who is known for his independent songs 'Katchi Sera,' 'Aasai Kooda,' and 'Sithira Puthiri,' is making his debut as a music director with the film.
Benz is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy alongside Lokesh, with Pradeep Boopathi as the creative producer.
