On Thursday, Amazon MX Player released the trailer of their upcoming big project Sankalp. Billed as a political-thriller, Sankalp stars Nana Patekar and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub in leading roles.
Making his OTT debut, Nana Patekar will be seen playing an influential educator whose authority rests on values, loyalty, and unwavering devotion. Meanwhile, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub plays a righteous cop who is stuck between his moral obligation to his mentor and his need to be truthful in his duties as a law-enforcement officer. The trailer builds steadily with a charged confrontation between the mentor and mentee, exposing the moral price of ambition and the thin line between guidance and establishing dominance. The tussle that ensues is what keeps everyone hooked to see if the student gets to rise against the master. Inspired by the ancient Chanakya–Chandragupta chronicles, the series reimagines political strategy for modern India.
Speaking about his OTT debut, Nana Patekar said in an official statement, “Playing Ma’at Saab led me to explore a new dimension. It’s a character layered with silence, conflict and consequences. Working again with Prakash Jha is always special because he tells stories that don’t spell everything out. They mirror the world as it is, and they stay with you.”
The series also boasts a formidable ensemble cast featuring Sanjay Kapoor, Neeraj Kabi, Kubbra Sait, Kranti Prakash Jha, and Meghna Malik in pivotal roles. Sanjay Kapoor plays an influential political figure, and Neeraj Kabi plays his advisory who hides a lot of deceit and machiavelli under his polished exterior.
Prakash Jha has previously directed the very-popular OTT series Ashram, which too streams on Amazon MX Player. He is otherwise known for making gritty political dramas like Mrityudand, Gangaajal, and Apaharan. Nana and Prakash previously collaborated on Apaharan (2005). Prakash Jha said about his new project, “I have always believed that storytelling carries responsibility. Sankalp is built on that belief, examining power, intent, and consequence in a way that stays with the audience.”
Amogh Dusad, Director and Head of Content, Amazon MX Player, said, “Sankalp is a sharp, contemporary socio-political thriller that reflects our focus on culturally rooted stories that spark meaningful conversations. It also continues our long-standing creative collaboration with Prakash Jha, whose distinctive voice has delivered many impactful narratives.”
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande for Jio Studios and Dishaa Jhaa under banner of PJP films Productions, Sankalp is set to premiere on March 11.
