Nearly a month after its release in theatres, Ken Karunaas's debut directorial Youth, which also stars him in the lead role, is all set to premiere on Netflix. The streaming giant confirmed the news, sharing that the comedy entertainer will release on their platform on April 16.
Released in theatres on March 19, Youth follows the story of Praveen (Ken Karunaas), who has to navigate the ups and downs of high school romance as he tries to salvage his academic performance for the sake of his parents.
Anishma Anilkumar, Meenakshi Dinesh, and Priyanshi Yadav play female leads in the film which also has Abison Thevarasa, Karen Vincent, Devadarshini, and Suraj Venjaramoodu, among others playing supporting roles.
Ken Karunaas, who has previously played key roles in Asuran, Vaathi and Viduthalai Part 2, made both his debut as the lead as well as filmmaker through Youth.
Upon release, the film was met with favourable reviews and became a commercial success, earning over Rs 50 crore in India and a worldwide collection of nearly Rs 70 crore in 22 days of its theatrical run, reports Sacnilk.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film read, "In Youth, Ken gets most things right and shines as a director, especially in the way he has extracted performances. While the kids are all right in this film, it is Suraj and Devadarshini who really steal the show in the last act with their restraint and subtlety. These portions also work in favour of Youth because it, rightfully, forgets that the film is a star vehicle. As we walk out of the theatres, we are given a chance to reminisce on our own school lives."
Ken, Vignesh Srikanth, and Eshwar Santhanalakshmi have written lyrics for the film. Besides GV Prakash, the technical crew of Youth includes Viki as the cinematographer, Nash as the editor, and Ramu Thangaraj as the editor.
It is produced by Karuppiah C Ram, Sulochana Kumar, and Kali Rajkumar. Paarvathaa Entertainments and Street Boy Studios have backed the film
