Earlier, we reported about JioHotstar renewing Kerala Crime Files for a third season, with its creator Ahammed Khabeer and season two writer Bahul Ramesh coming back for the next instalment. JioHostar announced the third season at its recent 'South Unbound' event, alongside many of its other original series and films. Thus, it has become the first series in Malayalam to have a third season. Ahammed and Bahul attended the JioHostar South Unbound event alongside the series' actors Arjun Radhakrishnan and Aju Varghese.
Talking about his journey with the series as a lead actor in season one and in an extended cameo in the second season, Aju shared that it is "a milestone" project in his 15-year-long career. Aju Varghese's role as a police officer in the series is among the few departures from his comical roles in mainstream Malayalam cinema. In a recent conversation with CE, Aju said that he only played a guest role in the series, even as he is prominently featured in its promotional materials, including the posters.
Kerala Crime Files marked Disney+ Hotstar's (now JioHotstar) entry into the Kerala OTT space. It is known for its high standard of storytelling and technical proficiency, due to which some people often mistakenly call it the first web series in Malayalam. While the first season, also starring Lal, followed an investigation into a murder at a lodge, the second instalment added emotional complexity and depth to the mystery at the heart of it. The likes of Indrans and Harisree Ashokan also played crucial roles in the second season, which is part of Bahul's so-called Animal Trilogy.
With the third season being announced, audiences are eagerly waiting to see what Bahul, also the writer of films such as Eko and Kishkindha Kaandam, cooks up with Ahammed Khabeer in it.
