On Friday, we had reported about Amazon MGM Studios’s official statement regarding the casting process for the next James Bond actor for the iconic franchise, while not giving away any more details. On Saturday, Shekhar Kapur shared his thoughts on the next Bond figure, also sharing how he played a role in Daniel Craig being part of the iconic franchise.
Taking to his X page, Shekhar penned a brief note, stating, “As the search of the next Bond heats up, my vote for the next James Bond after Daniel Craig would be John Abraham. He has the cool ‘shaken not stirred’ persona and certainly good actor with the ‘Bond Charm’.”
The Mr India filmmaker also suggested that Daniel Craig, who played James Bond for over 10 years, was chosen for the iconic role due to his performance in Shekhar Kapur’s 1998 film Elizabeth. “By the way Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond after the producers saw him in my film Elizabeth.”
It is to be noted that Daniel’s first Bond movie, Casino Royale, released in 2006, 8 years after Elizabeth’s release. In Elizabeth, Daniel played the role of John Ballard.
Meanwhile, John Abraham replied to Shekhar Kapur’s post, thanking him for the encouragement. The Dhoom actor added, “Truly humbled by your words and encouragement. Coming from someone who not only redefined storytelling but also had the instinct to spot Daniel Craig before the world saw Bond in him… this means a lot to me. As for Bond… I’ll happily start practising my martini order immediately. Shaken, not stirred.”
