The search for cinema’s next James Bond is underway, but Amazon MGM Studios isn’t rushing to reveal who will inherit the iconic role. During its CinemaCon presentation, the studio offered a measured update, making it clear that patience is part of the process.

Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios, addressed the speculation directly. “Now, I know you’re all wondering when we’re going to announce who’s playing James Bond,” she said, before tempering expectations. “Don’t get too excited. Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”

Behind the scenes, the next Bond film is assembling a high-profile creative team. Denis Villeneuve, acclaimed for his work on the Dune films, is set to direct, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. Producing duties are being handled by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer.

Valenti emphasised the strength of that lineup, noting, “When you pair one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class filmmaking team… you’re setting the stage for something that’s truly worthy of the Bond legacy.” She added that while the project is firmly in motion, “when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”

Casting remains the biggest unanswered question. Rumours have swirled around names like Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner and Louis Partridge, though no official shortlist has been confirmed. Whoever ultimately takes on the role will follow in the footsteps of Daniel Craig, whose tenure across five films, including Casino Royale and Skyfall, is widely regarded as one of the franchise’s strongest eras. Craig exited the series with 2021’s No Time to Die.

The stakes are high for Amazon, which acquired MGM Studios in 2022 for over $8 billion, with the Bond franchise being a key asset in that deal. The upcoming film, often referred to as Bond 26, is expected to be a major tentpole for the studio.
