Janhvi Kapoor, who was recently seen in Ram Charan's sports drama Peddi, is reportedly all set to make her debut in Tamil soon. Speculations are rife that she is set to play the female lead in director Sarkunam's upcoming web series Kurathi, backed by Pa Ranjith's Neelam Productions. However, an official announcement is yet to be made by the makers.

Janhvi Kapoor made her debut with 2018's Dhadak, the official remake of the Marathi film Sairat by Nagraj Manjule. Since then, she has been working in Bollywood, playing female leads in several films. In 2024, she made her Telugu debut with Jr NTR's Devara: Part 1. During the film's promotional tour in Tamil Nadu, the actor tried her hand in Tamil and delivered a promising speech, raising anticipation on the actor's Tamil debut. However, no announcement was made on that regard.

Jagapathi Babu weighs in on Peddi backlash: ‘Don’t blame Janhvi for everything…’

Her second Telugu film came with Peddi, helmed by Buchi Babu Sana. While the film received mixed reactions from audiences and critics, Janhvi's role and conceptualisation triggered massive backlash for the objectification of her character Achiyyamma. The issue became a full-blown debate on social media, generating widespread reactions from many noted names in the industry.

If the rumours on her Tamil debut turn out to be true, Janhvi's role in Kurathi could be a game changer for the actor and alter the course of her career as both Sarkunam (Kalavani, Vaagai Sooda Vaa, Pattathu Arasan) as well as Pa Ranjith are known to make rooted stories that resonate with rural and urban audiences alike. For the unversed, Vaagai Sooda Vaa (2011) was a critically acclaimed film that was honored with the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for 2012.

Besides this, Janhvi also has Lag Ja Gale, helmed by Raj Mehta (Jugjugg Jeeyo, 2022; Selfiee, 2023). Touted to be a revenge-action love story, the film also stars Tiger Shroff and Lakshya in lead roles.
