After taking a very strong opening at the box office, Cocktail 2 registered a major fall in its collections on Monday. Earlier, on its first weekend, the Shahid Kapoor starrer, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, had earned more than 47 crores (nett) in India. Homi Adjania has directed the film.
As per box office tracker Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 garnered Rs 6.35 crore (nett) on Monday. That is a 64 percent drop from its Sunday collections of Rs 17.75 crores nett, a tad higher than the standard 55-60% drop. The decline also means the mixed reviews from audience have taken a toll on film’s box office performance.
The film is unlikely to recover here onwards, and will probably struggle to reach 100 crore figure in domestic marker by next weekend. It is to be noted that Shahid’s previous release O’Romeo grossed Rs 111 crore worldwide, after opening with lower figures than Cocktail 2. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, Cocktail 2 needs to sustain steady collections well onto next week, where it will have stiff competition from another comedy-entertainer Welcome To The Jungle.
To some degree, this fall at domestic box office is cushioned by the film’s decent performance in overseas market, where it has earned Rs 20.75 crore so far. As of on Tuesday morning, Cocktail 2 has grossed more than Rs 85 crores at the box office worldwide.
