On Wednesday, Dhurandhar fame Ayesha Khan was detained in Mumbai while attending a protest march. The actor posted a series of photos and video, documenting the event.
Ayesha first uploaded her videos from the police van that picked her, along with many others, without giving details of where they were being taken. In a detailed video statement later, recorded from Worlli Police Station, Ayesha said, “We wanted to show our support to the NEET aspirants, to the students who died by suicide. We wanted to be a part of a protest which was supposed to happen in Dadar at 4 pm.”
Giving further details of her detention, Ayesha said, “We had just reached and were standing on the road. We didn't say anything, not a single slogan — when a cop came and said, ‘you cannot protest.’” Before Ayesha could engage the officers in a conversation, she along with her brother and friend, were pulled into the van.
The Dhurandhar actor added, “Throughout our time in the van, we kept asking, ‘why did you detain us? What did we do wrong?’ Yet, there was no answer, no accountability." Ayesha also reminded that the ‘no protests’ circulative begins from July 23, and that no law was being broken by them, adding, ‘So the question is, ‘Why? Why am I sitting in this police station?’
At the same time, Ayesha also acknowledged the kind behaviour by the police officers at Worli police station, where she was taken to.
In the past few days, many notable film figures like Shabana Azmi, Amol Parashar, Pratibha Ranta, and Rajat Barmecha attended the protests, sharing their videos and detailed accounts from the venue.
