The makers of much-anticipated mythological epic Ramayana held a grand promotional event on Saturday. Titled Pratham Sankalp, the event was attended by many notable film and media personalities, besides the primary cast and crew. On the occasion, Ranbir Kapoor expressed his gratitude to Arun Govil, who had portrayed Lord Ram in the popular 80s TV show Ramayana and was also present at the event.
Addressing Arun Govil from the stage where he stood with Sai Pallavi, producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari, Ranbir said, “You have carried this responsibility for many years. The beauty and dignity and honesty with which you have portrayed this role — Whoever has watched Ramayana, you gave them trust and inspiration. If I could only achieve a fraction of it, that would be a big achievement for me. Since childhood, I have grown up with learnings and blessings of Lord Ram, and your face. We love you like you are our own.”
On a light hearted note, addressing his eye-infection, Ranbir added, “I would like to apologise for my dark glasses. I have an eye infection. But on this pious occasion, I only have affection.”
Director Nitesh Tiwari too expressed his gratitude at the event. He said, “This story chose me. I was given this responsibility to tell this story to the world in all its glory. It was a long and tough journey, yet joyous. When you study Ramayana in depth, you get its real meaning. Its value system is its core. Thats why it continues to inspire us for thousands of years.”
Addiitonally, he underlined why a story like Ramayana must be told in present times as well. “Now, with such advanced technology, we can tell you the same story in a completely new way. How did Lord Ram battle Tadaka and Subahu? How did they look? You will realise how exciting the battle between Ravana and Jatayu could be. That has been our earnest attempt to show this story in a visually exciting way,” he added.
Some of the other cast members like Yash, Shobana and Ajinkya Deo were also present at the event.
