The much-anticipated Border 2 arrives in theatres on Friday, January 23. For the sequel, the makers of the film have used the composition ‘Sandese Aate Hain’ from the 1997 original Border, for the recreated version of ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge.’ However, the new additional verses have been penned by Manoj Muntashir, instead of Javed Akhtar who penned the original. In a recent interview, Javed opened up on why he refused to write lyrics for Border 2.
Speaking to India Today, the veteran lyricist revealed that the Border 2 asked him to write for the film. Explaining why he refused, Javed added, “I feel this is a kind of intellectual and creative bankruptcy. You have an old song, which did well, and you want to put it out again by adding something? Make new songs or else accept that you cannot do the same level of work."
Further making his point, Javed noted how the makers of Border (1997) chose to create new songs, instead of rehashing songs from the iconic war-drama Haqeeqat (1964) like ‘Kal Chale Hum Fida’ or ‘Main Ye Soch Kar.’ He added, “Those were such brilliant songs, but we didn’t use them. We wrote new ones, we made absolutely different songs, and people liked them too. You are making a movie again, so create new songs. Why are you depending on the past? Whatever is bygone, let that be. You have accepted that we can't do it. We will live with the past glory.”
Besides Manoj Muntashir, Border 2 has lyrics from Kausar Munir, who has penned the song ‘Ishq Da Chehra.’ Directed by Anurag Singh, the sequel features Varun Dhawan, Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in the lead cast.
