Vir Das lauds Aamir Khan for his hassle-free work process, ahead of Happy Patel’s release

Vir Das is gearing up for his directorial debut Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos that’s slated for theatrical release on January 16, 2026. The film reunites Vir with Aamir Khan productions after the 2011 hit Delhi Belly. Aamir Khan will also be seen in a special cameo in the film. In a recent interview, Vir Das spoke about Aamir’s hassle-free process during the shoot, praising him for his professionalism.

During his appearance on Hook’s Youtube Channel, Vir Das recalled how the team consciously planned their shoot with Aamir towards the end, adding, “because we really want to have our sh*t together and have a tight-functioning unit.” Vir further recalled how Aamir completely defied their expectations. “You’re imagining the day he comes on set, three more vanity vans will be required. Aamir Khan comes half an hour early and uses half a double-door vanity van, with an entourage that he takes care of,” Vir said.

Vir also recalled how both him and his co-director Kavi Shastri had to take a brief break, out of pure disbelief that they were directing Aamir Khan. Vir added, “You’re trying very hard to fanboy. You also realize, in that moment, that some people just have this magical, ethereal thing that they bring on to the screen, which you can see in real time.” While talking about the shoot experience, Vir also mentioned that they improvised with Aamir ‘on an insane level,’ adding that Aamir was super-secure throughout.

The official trailer of the film was unveiled on December 19. Mounted as a wacky crime comedy, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos also features Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and Srushti Tawade in the primary cast. Additionally, Imran Khan will be seen in a special cameo as well, marking his comeback to acting after nearly 11 years.
