The first tease of Haiwaan, the much-anticipated Priyadarshan directorial starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in the lead, was release on Wednesday afternoon. The thriller is set for a theatrical release on September 11.
Edited by Sahil Aabhay Tandel & Chaitanya M. Pereira, the Haiwaan teaser is impressive in the way it builds atmospheric tension purely with its intriguing visuals and without a word of dialogue. The visual play too is haunting with its use of shadows and silhouettes, without ever revealing the face of either of its lead players, especially Akshay Kumar who only gets a back shot as he walks on. In other shots, however, we see Saif Ali Khan, who plays a blind Samurai, walking down stairs cautiously, almost aware of the man who is following him.
On Tuesday evening too, the posters released by the team had a distinctively hazy visual, creating an intrigue look. Produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn, Haiwaan is an official remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, which too was directed by Priyadarshan.
In Haiwaan, Priyadarshan shares the screenplay credits with Abilash Nair & Rohan Shankar. Rohan has also penned the dialogues, while Abilash gets an additional co-director credit.
The technical team of Haiwaan includes prominent names like Sabu Cyril as the production designer and Divakar Mani who helms cinematography. Action direction is by Stunt Silva & Ravi Thyagarajan, while Pritam has composed the music for the film.
Besides Akshay and Saif, the thriller features stellar actors like Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Sharib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma, Pahal Chaudhary, and Manoj Joshi in the ensemble cast.
Haiwaan reunites Akshay and Saif after 18 years - the two had last collaborated on Tashan (2008), which was a colossal box office failure.
