Vir Das, who made his directorial debut earlier this year with Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos, is next making a found-footage psychological horror titled Baara Number. We had reported about the project announcement in April this year. On Thursday, the actor-filmmaker officially announced the ensemble cast of the movie.
In Baara Number, Vir Das is going for a completely new lead cast, repeating none of his actors from Happy Patel. Besides Vir himself, the cast includes renowned actors like Sheeba Chaddha, Arunoday Singh, Ahsaas Channa, Atul Kulkarni, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Suhail Nayyar, Puja Sarup and Naveen Kaushik.
While Sheeba and Atul have been active in the industry for nearly 30 years, Shriya Pilgaonkar rose to the limelight with her work in Mirzapur. Arunoday, meanwhile, was recently seen in Maa Behen.
Speaking about the cast, Vir said, “What made this project especially exciting was bringing together a group of actors whose work I’ve admired for years. Sheeba, Atul, Arunoday, Shriya, Ahsaas, Niharika, Suhail and Naveen each bring a distinct energy, intelligence and authenticity to the film. Horror works best when audiences believe every moment is real, and this ensemble has elevated the material beyond anything I imagined when we first started writing it.”
Kavi Shastri, who was also on board with Happy Patel as a co-director, is part of Baara Number as a creative producer. The film is being backed by Vir's Zazu Productions.
More details about the project are yet to be announced.
