Diljit Dosanjh has opened up about the controversy surrounding Sardaar Ji 3 release and said that it was shot before the Pahalgam terror attack. The Punjabi film is facing a lot of heat currently as Diljit stars alongside Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in it.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit said, “When the film was made, the situation was fine. This film was shot in February. A lot of things happened after that which are not in our control. When it (Pahalgam attack) happened, the producers knew that they can’t release this film in India anymore. But, they decided to release it overseas as they have invested a lot of money in the film. They will 100% suffer losses because they are removing an entire territory.”
He added, "The truth is when I signed the film, the situation was just fine. Now, when the producers want to release it overseas, I will have to stand with them and support their decision."
He also shared about his experience of working with Hania, “Hania Aamir is good. She is very professional. I don’t get involved with anyone much, I am a very private person.”
Meanwhile, Film bodies have decided to boycott Diljit for working with the Pakistani actor. The president of The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) told NDTV, “We will ensure that Diljit Dosanjh won't get work (films or concerts) in any part of India. If he doesn't withdraw the release of the film, he won't get work in India.”
After the Pahalgam terror attack, India reinforced a ban on Pakistani artists and content, including OTT and social media. Following this, the social media accounts of Pakistani artists were inaccessible in India.
Sardaarji 3 was scheduled earlier to hit the screens on June 27. It will only have an international release now. The film's trailer was shared by Diljit on social media, where he is seen romancing Hania.
