Think about an Indian film, which is in the second week of its release, doing better at the box office than a Hollywood biggie on its day one. It might appear too good to be true, but this is exactly what has been happening with Dhurandhar in relation to Avatar: Fire and Ash at the box office in India. According to Sacnilk and multiple other sources, the Ranveer Singh starrer, directed by Aditya Dhar, has collected more money from theatres in India as compared to the James Cameron directorial on the first and second days of the latter's release. According to Sacnilk data, on Friday, the first day of its release, the third part in Cameron's Avatar franchise earned a net collection of 19 crore. On the other hand, the tracker's data shows that Dhurandhar grossed 22.5 crore at the nationwide box office on Friday, which is the third Friday since its release. The situation remained the same on Saturday as well.

While Dhurandhar had a jump in its India net collection from 22.5 on Friday to 34.25 crore on Saturday, the corresponding numbers for Avatar: Fire and Ash's remained at 22.25, lower than the former's Friday figures. The numbers for Sunday, too, show the Hindi film having an upper hand against the Hollywood biggie, although the day is still not over.

As reported earlier, Dhurandhar has grossed over 700 crore from theatres worldwide so far. On the other hand, according to a Deadline report, the latest Avatar film is expected to earn $350 million at the global box office in its opening weekend. The Cameron directorial has opened to mostly mixed reviews from critics all around the world and negative feedback from those in India. While many critics have been praising the spectacle in Cameron's film, the storytelling has not gone down well with them.
