After breaching the Rs 500 crore mark within ten days of release, Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar has surpassed yet another box office milestone by earning over Rs 700 crore globally. In just two weeks, the spy drama has reached the feat with a strong overseas contribution of over Rs 150 crore and an India gross of approximately Rs 550 crore. The Aditya Dhar-directed film is now eyeing for the coveted Rs 1000 crore-mark.
However, starting Friday, the film will face stiff competition from Avatar: Fire and Ash from James Cameron which is currently eyeing major footfall from fans of the franchise. But trade analysts feel that the Dhurandhar wave hasn't fallen yet and collections will see a major jump over the holiday week, leading up to New Year. The film has overtaken collections of Rajinikanth's 2.0 and the second-week revenue of Pushpa 2.
If its revenue crosses the Rs 1000 crore mark, Ranveer Singh will be the third Indian actor after Shah Rukh Khan and Prabhas to achieve the feat.
Dhurandhar follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative (Ranveer Singh as Hamza Ali Mazari), who infiltrates Pakistan's underworld at the behest of an Indian spymaster Ajay Sanyal (Madhavan). The film has been receiving rave reviews from celebrities and fans following its release on December 5.
Our CE review of the film by Kartik Bhardwaj reads, "Dhurandhar begins with novelistic promise. It is even divided in chapters, although with derivative titles like “Price of peace” and “Et Tu Brutus”. Still, in this attention-desperate times, it was impressive to watch a film which isn’t eager to impress. It calmly sets up the story, characters aren’t showcased but introduced, and that too only when the plot demands. Dhurandhar appears to be a film which is asking for your time, so that it can lay down its cards. But then two hours have passed and the ace seems to be still far up its sleeves."
The cast also features Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam, and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal of the ISI. Sara Arjun took on the role of the female lead for the first time in this film after being part of several projects as a child actor.
Dhurandhar is backed by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under the banners Jio Studios and B62 Studios. A sequel is also in the works from the makers which is slated for release on March 19, 2026.
