The chatter around Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar continues to grow, so has the film's box office numbers. The Aditya Dhar-directed spy action-thriller has now breached the coveted Rs 500 crore mark and is now marching towards the Rs 600 crore milestone as its current total stands at Rs 552.70 crore.
As the film is witnessing consistent footfall in theatres, Dhurandhar has also been registering houseful shows across several areas in Jammu & Kashmir, including smaller towns like Shopian and Pulwama, where theatrical exhibition has remained limited, indicating increase in demand for movies from these regions even where multiplex infrastructure remaind limited.
The film's performance has been supported by Citara, a multiplex chain that operates small-format theatres with seating capacities of 100-150 seats across Jammu & Kashmir. In the absence of conventional multiplex infrastructure, these theatres have emerged as an alternative, offering local audiences an opportunity to experience films on the big screen.
Following its success, Ranveer posted on his Instagram story: "Kismat ki ek bohut khoobsurat aadat hai, ki woh waqt aane par badalti hai...Lekin filhal... Nazar aur sabr." His post roughly translates to, "Fate has a very beautiful habit — it changes when the time comes…But for now… patience and faith."
Dhurandhar follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative (Ranveer Singh), who infiltrates Pakistan's underworld at the behest of an Indian spymaster Ajay Sanyal (Madhavan). Upon release on December 5, the film was met with mixed reviews, but was praised for the lead actors' performances. In Rs 552.70 crore that the film has amassed, India box office alone accounts for Rs 430.20 crore while its overseas revenue is at Rs 120.50 crore.
Our CE review of the film by Kartik Bhardwaj reads, "Dhurandhar begins with novelistic promise. It is even divided in chapters, although with derivative titles like “Price of peace” and “Et Tu Brutus”. Still, in this attention-desperate times, it was impressive to watch a film which isn’t eager to impress. It calmly sets up the story, characters aren’t showcased but introduced, and that too only when the plot demands. Dhurandhar appears to be a film which is asking for your time, so that it can lay down its cards. But then two hours have passed and the ace seems to be still far up its sleeves."
The cast also features Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam, and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal of the ISI. Sara Arjun took on the role of the female lead for the first time in this film after being part of several projects as a child actor.
Dhurandhar is backed by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under the banners Jio Studios and B62 Studios. After this, a sequel is also in the works from the makers which is slated for release on March 19, 2026.
