Joining a long line of celebrities who have praised Ranveer Singh's latest film Dhurandhar, actor Hrithik Roshan shared his review underlining that he loved the storytelling of the Aditya Dhar-directorial. "I love cinema, i love people who climb into a vortex and let the story take control, spin them shake them until what they want is purged out of them onto the screen. Dhurandhar is an example of that. Loved the storytelling. It's cinema," he said on his Instagram story, but with a caveat.
The War actor, however, confessed that he "disagrees with the politics" of the film and "the responsibilities us filmmakers should bear as citizens of the world." "Nevertheless, can’t ignore how loved and learnt from this one as a student of cinema. Amazing," he added, further heaping appreciation for Ranveer Singh and the technical team of the film.
For the unversed, Dhurandhar takes inspiration from real-life events like the 1999 Kandahar hijacking, 2001 Parliament attack, and 2008 Mumbai strikes. It follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative Hamza (Ranveer), who infiltrates Pakistan's underworld at the behest of an Indian spymaster Ajay Sanyal (Madhavan). The film has been raking big numbers at the box office since its release on December 5, but reviews have been mixed with many pointing out the film's hypernationalistic themes and chest-thumping patriotism, calling out Pakistan.
Following his views, social media users praised him for taking the 'right stand' and offering a 'balanced' take on the film while "showing courage to speak up" against "right-wing propaganda". However, certain eagle-eyed fans noticed that he had written a different review on his Instagram handle from what was mentioned on X. This drew massive flak from X users who also pointed out that his views were "hypocritical" as Fighter and War featured scenes that were "jingoistic" and had "bikini-clad women" in the film as IAF officers. "Hrithik doesn’t agree with the politics of Dhurandhar.. the movie literally showed really politics of Pakistan," said one user. The actor has also been receiving significant hate for the post for reportedly deleting the post twice before sharing it again.
The cast of Dhurandhar also includes Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam, and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal of the ISI. Sara Arjun made her debut as a lead, after being part of several projects as a child actor.
