Recently, we reported about Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, breaking the previous record by Deadpool and Wolverine. Recently, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds shared his thoughts about the film. Speaking to Variety, the actor called it "an incredible movie" and expressed his appreciation for Nolan, saying he is a "singular filmmaker" who "breathes the rarest air on Earth".
Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya, among others, The Odyssey has grossed more than $1.50 billion from theatres worldwide, according to reports. Reynolds view this as a positive sign of audiences flocking to theatres at a time when streaming services are more prevalent than ever before. "I just love that people are going to the movie theatres. I don't even care why; just go to the movie theatres. There's no better shared experience," Reynolds said.
Coming back to The Odyssey, Nolan's film chronicles King of Ithaca's perilous journey back home after the Trojan war. With the curse of Poseidon wrecking havoc on his ship on the way back home, Odysseus starts to wonder about the repercussions of his actions and the futility of war. The film is based on Homer's epic Greek poem of the same name. It is yet to have a digital premiere date, although reports suggest that the film will become available for streaming in November.
The Odyssey also stars Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, and John Leguizamo, among others. The film has been gaining considerable Academy Award buzz ahead of the awards season, with critics hedging their bets on the film securing second best picture and best director Oscar wins for Nolan.
Ryan Reynolds, meanwhile, is awaiting the release of his film Mayday, written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.
